New hotel booking section on VS web site

I've only just noticed this [:I], but VS have updated their 'Book Hotels' section as I've just come across this:

On 31 July 2006 Virgin Atlantic launched Virgin Atlantic Travel Plus, the 'One Stop Shop' for booking both Airlines and Hotel accommodation.

For every £1 spent on Virgin Atlantic Travel Plus, Flying Club Members will earn 1 Flying Club Mile. Furthermore, you can also earn additional miles if the hotel you stay with is one of our Flying Club Hotel Partners.

All bookings can be made directly through http://www.virgin-atlantic.com by using the 'Book Hotels' link.

So you will earn 1 FC mile per £1 spent on every hotel booking made + the usual FC earnings if the hotel is a FC partner. Seems a good deal. It's powered by V Hols.

Just had a look for hotels in Washington and it seems quite reasonable although there's not that many to choose from.

Regards

Actually, there is one issue.

It uses the same back-end as Expedia. Since IC did a deal with Travelocity only, no Intercontinental Hotels Group hotels will show up for booking. (IC, CP, HI, HEX, etc) [n]

Not sure this is true for all hotels.

This from the terms ands conditons of Jumeirah hotels on the VS website.
The following stays are not eligible to earn miles:

Wholesale/Tour operator rates.
Travel industry, group or conference bookings.
Complimentary rooms.
Corporate volume rates or any heavily discounted rates. (Non volume corporate rates will qualify for miles).

Hold on a sec Tim, you're comparing apples with oranges.

ANY hotel BOOKED through Virgin's new service (Virgin Atlantic Travel Plus) will earn 1 mile per £1 spent during the transaction.

That particular hotel has an offer as a Flying Club PARTNER to earn miles for actually staying there (regardless of who it was booked through) providing it's not on a heavily discounted rate.

If you booked through VATP, you'd earn miles for the cost of the booking PLUS for the stay there itself, providing you're booked under an eligible rate.

You've compared (and joined) the T's and C's for two entirely unrelated offers.

...and pay for it on your AMEX black (before next July) and earn even more FC miles - a whopping 6 miles per £ spent [y]

I have somehow managed to miss both this on VS site and also this thread on here (bad day) but like this a lot. Prices do seem there or there abouts on all the ones I have looked at and if you booked with the Amex card a fair few miles could be earned, which is always good[y]

Thanks for the info
Neil:)

Just tried using the new site for hotels in Dubai next April - not with a view to booking as we've already booked but just to try out site. Must admit I'm not that impressed, plugged in dates for late April (well after Easter) and applied 5* only to the search criteria and it returned only two hotels [n] Given that Dubai is packed with 5* hotels I was just a little surprised! Expedia, Airline Network and other well known sites return dozens of options.

For a Black Flying Club Amex holder, surely best to book the same Hotel through VH, get 10% off, and get bonus miles?

If only VH offered Madinat Jumeirah. Plug in 5* hotels to VH's search engine for dates in April & it returns next to nothing [n] We ended up booking through Trailfinders :)
