reduced credit limit

Article in today's Mail on Sunday relates that some people have had their limit reduced, for no apparent reason. They quoted one guy, a millionaire with several properties, with an excellent credit rating, who had his limit reduced from £17,500 to £10,000 - and his second card reduced too, (can't remember the figures for that). Amex were contacted and refused to comment, the guy concerned has cancelled his cards and instructed his business not to accept any payments via Amex.

Now - possible sensationalism aside - just adds to my feeling that i won't be keeping the card after the enhanced points expires.

Question though - which to have instead? I thought about BA, but they use Amex too. I have a NatWest visa, which I'm using as back up for thos ever increasing times when Amex isn't accepted. I think it gives BA miles,, but not a very good rate. Suggestions, chaps and chapesses, as to a good credit card to get instead?

Were they talking about Amex direct or MBNA cards?

It's Amex and not MBNA (got that from the bit that mentioned the Brighton and India call centres being bombared by complaints - nothing new there then [:w])

There are lots of complaining AMEX customers over on Money Saving Expert that are talking about the slashing of credit limits.

But it does appear that it is not only AMEX that are doing this.

I've recently acquired the BMI Platinum card, which gives 2 'Diamond Club' miles per £ spent and a 20,000 mile sign up bonus. For me it's a fallback Mastercard for those companies that don't take Amex.

You can't collect Flying Club miles with it, but Diamond Club miles can be earnt / spent on VS, and as BMI are Star Alliance they can also be collected / spent on other airlines, my main interest being Singapore Airlines.

It's issued by MBNA so I had to redistribute my credit balance slightly ( was high already ) to accomodate this, and MBNA increased my overall borrowing limit also.

Thanks,

David.
