Virgin MBNA Mastercard does it again!!!!

I am so looking foward to not earning miles on my Virgin MBNA Mastercard. Then I can stop dealing with MBNA full stop!
I have just cleared the balance on my card, and then my wife was drawing cash for a few consecutive days in China (as she often does when we need to pay cash for something there), but the card has yet again been stopped. Good Fraud protection you might say, but it only seems to happen just after I have cleared the balance.
And now I'm sure I have another letter sent to my "home address", which of course I won't get until christmas.
It seems like good time to ditch MBNA finally and revert to earning less miles on my proper AMEX card, whose customer services are soooo much easier to deal with.

You'll probably find MBNA have terminated it fully & finally! Mine worked fine in the US last month (used it a few times at places that didn't take AMEX) but a week or so ago I received a letter from MBNA saying that the account has been terminated & advising me to move any recurring debits I may have set up. In recent months, like others who've already mentioned this, I received two very badly written letters from MBNA warning me that I shouldn't be using the MC and to cut it up. Of course I duly ignored these as the MC was my miles lifeline at outlets that didn't take AMEX - have now resorted to BAA Worldcard thanks to reading the recommendation in
this threadWould be interested to know if there's anyone out there whose MC still works, or have we all received "the letter"?

I can't wait either - I have just had 'Mark Williams' with a decidely Indian accent call me about my MBNA Virgin card and protection insurance, who was asking for my DOB and other PII. Refused to listen to my point that I had opted out of telephoen calls from MBNA and hung up. Muppets.
Thanks,
Richard

I think they keep calling me at my parents house, which is currently my mailing address in the UK... They don't tell who they are, so my parents don't tell them where i am... Bye bye MBNA... Hello EGG again, for no other reason than their account is painless to administer online.

I've been using my mastercard since I got to OZ and have been informd that my parents have been reciving close to 3 calls a week from a call centre since I left...!
To be honest I've been worried everytime I ave used the card as I wouldnt put it past them to just cancel it as I vavent (and wont be) changed to amex

That exactly what they do - just cancel it. OK, they've been sending those rude letters to everyone "warning" them to cease using the MC but no mention of when they will switch you off! I simply took the stance that we had at least 90 days parallel usage (as per the AMEX blurb at the outset) so any grace period beyond that is an added bonus. I found out my MC had been terminated when trying to pay for the weekly grocery delivery on Ocado - so luckily didn't have the embarrassment of the card being declined in public. Since the cancellation I've received another (again somewhat rude) letter from MBNA that said in so many words I should have heeded the warnings and my card has been cancelled.

Now they really take the biscuit in customer service..... I am getting a phone call every couple of hours from their computerised, automated fraud prevention hotline.... I answer the phone call and a computer voice tells me that it is phoning about "unusual transactions" on my card, and then proceeds to tell me it will take a couple of minutes and goes through security questions.
I'm currently in India, so they can whistle if they think i am going to pay roaming charges when they can't even be bothered to get a human to phone me.... And best of all, MrsPVG tells me her card worked today, so was obviously below the authorisation threshold.... that should really annoy them if she keeps using it [:o)]

So, I finally arrived back in Korea where I was sat at a desk long enough to be bothered to go through the security rigmarole.
I called the "contact the operator and ask them to reverse the charges" +44 number, and guess what.... a real live human answered on the first ring! They probably don't want to be racking up huge international phone bills.
Anyway I gave the guy a piece of my mind, told him I would be cancelling the card, NOT taking the AMEX or any other card option that was administered by MBNA, and would be clearing my balance off, MINUS the international roaming call charges that their computer kept incurring for me, for which I would gladly send them the Bill!
He wasn't impressed with this Idea, and it probably won't get me anywhere, but it made me feel better [:o)]
