I am looking at VA UC and wish to know of members experiences with other airlines in Business or First

You could do numerous routes, eg. UA lhr-lax/sfo-syd or CX lhr-hkg-syd or BA lhr-hkg/bkk/sin-syd. Both CX and BA provided imho great services, but the one i would choose(if i couldnt/wasnt flying VS) is SIA first. You get a brilliant service and miles.

Obviously i would always choose VS UC but all of the above provide a great service.

To find peoples views on these different airline you could either look at the trip reports in this section of v-flyer or check out the trip reports on airliners.net

There are lots of good choices eg. VS UC ([y]), Singapore F, Cathay Pacific F, Emirates F - I think Emirates operate an A340-500 to SYD so if I were you, I'd go VS UC to Dubai and then EK F to SYD.;)

Think it may have changed to a 777-300er (either DXB-SYD or DXB-SIN-SYD) I believe the DXB-MEL-CHC flight gets the 345- though I could be wrong!

I've just returned from oz with VS and I am actually wondering if flying with UA across the US would be better!

I flew SYD-SFO return while I was there and though the flight was better and the service terrific compared to Virgin (and I was in economy!) flying to syd plus from what I've heard apparently the jetlag isnt as bad if you follow the UA route

Of course VS UC! [y] However you have heaps of airlines going to SYD, I would probably go SQ-F CX-F or EK-F they are all really good if you go with EK you have the option of stoping over in DXB, SIN or HKG, so you can do 2 different cities on a return trip.

Keep us informed who you book with! :D

If going that way round- then fly NZ from LHR-LAX-AKL then hop onto a AKL-SYD flight- that way you got miles. will be a much longer service though.

When the A345 was first introduced, it did the SYD route, but I guess it has changed now.

I'd like to say try and go anywhere you can to get EK A345 for F, but I don't think that's particularly economical;) Another time perhaps[}:)]

Well as you know London to Sydney business class tickets tend not to be cheap. Hopefully it is not much money to you but it is to me. So maybe be a huge value out of it.

BD, EasyJet or whoever to CDG
SQ CDG-SIN (SQ will be using new Boeing 777-300s with new business)
SQ SIN-SYD (maybe over night in Singapore)

Now you could take VS back or NZ to the USA then VA to London and book a GE fare which are not bad at all.

OK, I'll try and summarise my opinions for you.

If it were me, my best routes would be:
VS UC London-Dubai, EK F Dubai-Sydney
Ben's suggestion in F.
And of course VS UC London-Sydney (via Hong Kong)

It may be cheaper to go business in which case I'd probably go for Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong.

VS.

I would look at SIA via Paris and you will get the new F or Business class- It looks very very good + SIA service is wonderful (+ you will get your VS points on SIA)
