Just had a text from MBNA to say that every Friday I will get a free text showing my balance and recent transactions. You can reply with STOP to opt out.
Hopefully they won't send them at 6am like First Direct did with their text alerts!
Guess it's a useful way to ensure cardholders know their current spend and to try and notice any fraudulent activity quicker.

That's a good idea! Lets hope it isn't in the morning, First Direct are always sending them at ungodly hours! [:(!]

Thats a great idea, MBNA have a good idea for once!! However, yes I wish FD would change theirs to a later time!

Confirmed with MBNA that texts will be sent in the afternoon and not during 'unsocial' hours like FD !!

Unfortunately, got mine in the early hours here in Cuba and, although it's a free service, I'll be paying to receive the messages - the text "stop# wont work from here either!
Regards
Pat

You don't get charged to receive text messages when you're abroad, so not sure why you will be paying?

is this service only for the fee paying card?
