Tax free allowances

Hello everyone,
I'm thinking of buying a pair of Bose QuietComfort 3 headphones in New York next week, as they are so much cheaper than buying them in the UK, but I know that buying them would go over my tax free allowance. So instead I'm thinking of getting them at Dixons T3 tax-free, but I'm wondering if when returning to the UK after my trip, customs would count stuff bought airside at heathrow as 'bringing back into the UK'.
Thanks for any thoughts or better suggestions.

Just buy them in the US. It works out cheaper.
I didn't tell you this but make sure you get rid of any packaging and hide/destroy you receipts whilst you are still in the US. If anyone asks you (very unlikey though) you bought them in the UK before you travelled and took them out with you [:w] [:w]

Hmmm.. I think I bought my QC3's in the UK, then used my wife's Chinese passport to claim the tax back when we exported them... but they've not been back to the UK since.... honest[:I]
But don't worry, the tax you are avoiding paying on the QC3's, and anything else you may inadvertently forget to declare is being more than made up for by the APD and other stealthy taxes.
All's fair in love and Tax Avoidance!
