Greenwich Hotels - near to Dome?

Hi
I've just spotted that Prince is playing some dates in London in August. My husband is a massive Prince fan so we will be going!
We normally stay in the west end around Kensington but thought this might be quite a trek on the tube so wondered about Greenwich.
Am I right in thinking its a good location for the dome? Is there a good range of places to go at night (pubs/restaurant)or would we be better staying more in the centre of London? Lastly could anybody recommend a good/decent hotel in Greenwich?

The location of the Dome on the Greenwich Pennisula is still pretty much in a wilderness and after exiting from the concert you would be hard pressed to find anything half decent by way of restuarants / barsd etc.
Greenwich itself is a good 15 - 20 minute bus ride away (and I suspect these will be mighty crowded on concert nights).
25 minutes on the Jubilee Line Tube will see you back at Green Park in central London. Although one stop and you are at Canary Wharf where there are some good hotels.
Hope this is of use - please feel free to PM me if you need to know more.

Hi Buns
Cheers, think we would be better heading back into central London and at least be based in an area we know.
Thanks for you reply

Just caught this topic. there is a ship that is docked alongside Excel that has been made into an hotel, can't find it via google, but maybe someone else will know of it. /went past it a few weeks ago, and looks real cool. Also, I have stayed at Custom House, very cheap and nice hotel

I'm with Buns on this - thinking that around Canary Wharf would be a good idea. The tube will be less busy in this direction, and the hotels likely to be attractive rates-wise, given that they all focus on the business traveller and are going to be less busy at the weekend. And then it's very easy to get into town from there. For example the Four Seasons has a great location and views, standard rates are £350 per night but they offer weekend rates of £175 ...

We've booked the HI Kensington Forum, we have stayed there before, got a good deal for 2 nights for the price of 1 and my husband has a HI Plat card so the points will be handy for future jollies.
Just now looking for places to eat

Thanks for all your comments
