The EK F on the A340-500 is very good with the ultimate in privacy, but the service is a bit stand-offish, and a little hit and miss. Be aware that the doors only go up to about 5', which is enough to stop opportunistic peering over the top. The mini bar is little more than a gimmick - it's not refridgerated. The Clarins freebies are definitely the business. I believe that these days they only offer the A345 on DXB-JFK/SYD/MEL/AKL/CHC, although they did run it on the LGW route at one time, which made for a very nice round trip to AKL.

The new SIA F on their newly introduced 777-300ER's looks the part but I didn't find the seat as comfy as on their 747 SkySuite: sure, they are as wide as you like but I couldn't get the seat to recline and allow me to put my feet up as I'd like. Privacy is better on the 77W but certainly not as good as EK's A345 F. SIA service on the other hand is consistently excellent.

EK's first has a little too much gold all over it for my liking. SIA and BA's FIRST (love how they capitalise) looks much classier for me, and BA is very much Old Money which I kinda like. Not that I would say no to any of them if I worked for someone to pay for the flight.

Is that pretty much the same cabin set up as Jet Airways First?

I think the new SIA looks better and more plush. The EK first looks like a very comfortable plastic casket.

Out of interest, on SQ which did you prefer their new J class or their old one, as your video shows the new first on SQ as to not to be as spacious as their skysuite?

I don't really have any direct experience of SIA J, although I did sneak into the J section of the new 77W for a look. It seemed very similar to F, although when the seat is put into a bed position the footwell of the seat behind takes out space around the head position owing to the reduced pitch.

Sorry Howard, I am complete idiot, my message didn't make much sense. I meant SQ first, what you prefer their new cabin or their skysuite. I am looking at flying home on SQ or to go via CDG.

I would go and try the new one if you can. I have experienced the sky suite 3 times and its brilliant but would really love to try the new F. Its worth the hassle of going through Paris just to try it. No better way of passing 12 hrs in the air.

I think that the 77W is worth the experience, but like I have mentioned the seat, although uber wide, wasn't quite right for reclining. You can easily get two on it in either the seated or the lying down position [^] but the privacy's not really there for a bit of ladies & gentlemen.

So all we need now is the width of those SQ seats and the sliding EK A345 doors and it'll be more than just cellphones and crying babies keeping you awake on a night flight.

On a flight to SYD from DXB on the A345 shortly before the Melbourne Grand Prix, a well known F1 driver and his GF had quite a few private moments together with the doors shut in the suite across the aisle from mine over in 3K. I am rather too conservative, old and lack the contortionism required for such antics. On second thoughts, given the chance...
