Has anyone done this trip before by coach and if so, how long does it take?

It's 270 miles from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon so I'd think a coach trip would be a very full day. In a car it took us about 4.5 hrs to get to the South Rim.

If you can, hire a car for the trip - so much more fun and you can stop off where you like on the way there and back.

Thanks for your comments, I think it might be worth hiring a car. What about the Hoover Dam, How far is that do you know?

About 30 miles. Worth a visit.

Yep well worth a visit on the way through, although it can get very busy.

First time we visited the dam we did the full tour. Don't think this is available anymore post 9/11 though, but even so it's still worth a stop off

Also well worth doing is the Death Valley loop (- although obviously not on the same day as the Canyon / Dam as it takes you in a different direction completely)

[y] And if you thought it hot in Las Vegas..

It's also an interesting direction to take as you go through some fascinating towns. Pahrump, for example, home to two prominently advertised ("cover your eyes, children!") brothels and numerous clubs that offer you the chance to loose off large calibre automatic weapons.

There is a place on east tropicana that you can do that, I will get you the address, saves having to drive to Pahrump.

It was a few years back and it's not my kind of thing so I'm afraid the answer is no, but I see Scrooge has stepped up to the plate with a less distant opportunity.

I think Scrooge is refering to 'The Gun Store'

I was going to visit on my last trip in Feb, but never got around to it, hopefully next time.

If you visit the web site above there is a $5 discount voucher that you can print off and take with you.

Thank you,

ps. Minstrels are being added to, this batch has a date of December 07, and are in a cool dark place, so should be fine in Aug.

Just out of interest, is the other range in PAHRUMP an outdoor one?..... How did PAHRUMP get it's name??

Starting with the latter check out Wikipedia.

Not sure about the range in Pahrump. A quick google shows only
Frontsight and that appears to be a training institute rather than a chance to loose off a few rounds in a safe environment.

Please believe me when I say I wasn't trying to sell it as a holiday destination. It's just a kind of place that you don't get in Cambridgeshire. My use of the term "fascinating" was really in the same way I'd say "I find the contestants in the Apprentice fascinating" or "That Richard Littlejohn - isn't he fascinating?".

I know what you mean, friends of ours when they come out here always head up to Pahurmp for a day..to people watch...they go to one of the ranches, take a seat at the bar and watch the comings and goings through the day [ii]...to me it sounds like a waste of time, but I guess over the years they have gotten to know some of the people that work there so it's like going to see old friends.

V-Flyer outing ? [:0]
