...whilst reading through the latest Centurion Magazine I noticed in the small print in the feature on MO Hotels that the complimentary second night has been removed from the MO New York and the MO London. [n]

Instead, at these two establishments, members will receive a 200 USD credit towards food and beverage. My last stay at the MO New York cost c. 800 USD we were then upgraded to a suite rack rate 1,600 USD per night and had the second night free, a Centurion benefit of 1,600 USD! Somehow 200 USD just doesn't cut the mustard. [V]

It's been like that for some time Bazz... yes it is pretty pants.

When you price up the remaining benefits; insurance, priority passes, existing MO offers then it is still worth the £650.

£650 is more than my worldwide annual travel insurance...

... and my policy covers me for trying to kill myself in 5 different named extreme (insurance speak: "hazardous") ways, most of which involve playing with gravity. [:0]


I'd LOVE to see how the insurance policy is worth that much. PP, well, that's what *G and VS_G is for. MO Offers? Hmm - stay somewhere else

Covers me, my spouse, and any kids under the age of 21. repeat for the other 5 cardholders on my account too, so their partners and their kids. With that it then covers all CDW, SLI etc when renting a car anywhere in the world, exception being my home country where I must have flown there or be stopping at least one night in a hotel. That car benefitn covers all adults covered on my account, so if my brother wants to rent a car in Fl for 2 weeks he has no insurance to pay for. With a full account, it's a no brainer in paying the fee.

Agree priority pass is a backup measure, but useful to have especially if you give them to your parents who don't have any airline status.

Mo, yep could stop elsewhere but it's a nice benefit to have. Allows me to stop in their properties for half price (as long as I am doing 4 nights or less) and at that price point it makes it cheaper than a lot of places.

Really, Cent it a status symbol. Hell all AmEx Plat cards to some degree are. I upgraded to Plat and now my old airline ramp worker friends have Plat. Big f-ing deal. I have AmEx plat for one main reason. Honestly I want to cancel because all the damn paper they send to the house. How many guides and books on the benefits do I need? WTF? Anyone want a copy of 'Departures' or yet another copy of the FHR guide?

It is a card. IF you are really can afford to use the features of the card you do not need the card. My AmEx Plat has a clear sticker with black text reading 'ChavPlat'. I am sure some hear can atest. Happy to send anyone one if they donate 5 quid to VF. IF you want a neat card; get a NetJets card (not the Marquis Jet crap). It will get you laid (maybe, they are getting more common in DC). Grrrrr!

I can't see how the UK black card is worth £350 more than the Plat anymore,apart from the kudos of having it.

1. When one of your goals in life is to stay at every MO property it really pays for itself each year quite easily.
2. Event invites - there are some amazing events that you can partake in through invites from Centurion.
3. Concierge ... they can be a bit rubbish at times, but through experience they can be very helpful at times.

While for some it may be about status, but I don't get that myself. Its only about status for those who are so desperate to try and show the status they have or feel it someone makes them a member of some elite club.

For it to be truly about status your peers need to know what it means. It's a card, it's a card that's black - how many people really know what a Centurion card is? Most people (in the UK) rarely see or use an Amex card and wouldn't know the difference between an Amex Plat Credit Card and Charge Card, never mind a Centurion card.

MO benefits have easily made up the £350 differential this year for my account.

It does continue to amaze me the amount of hype and mystique (and duff information) that surrounds the card, in particular in the US. Yes it is just a card. As Fozz says, most have no idea what it is, which is fine by me nowadays. There does seem to be a big difference in the positioning of the card in various markets, US and UK are very different.

Bazz - MO NYC was changed about 18 months ago, LON was done in the last year.

Have seen Ben's ChavPlat and it is indeed very funny. [:p]

Let's get one thing straight..The US Centurion and the Uk are two totally different beasts.

The Uk Centurion is more like the US Platinum.
