Langham Place Hong Kong

We stayed here during our jaunt to HK. The hotel is situated in Mong Kok about a minutes walk from Mong Kok MTR.

As we used FC miles for the flight decided to splash out on a nice hotel and so booked a Langham Place Club Room. Booked over the net and got a long stay discount. Decided to avail ourseleves of the Limo service at $500HK per car. Very conveniently located just outside arrivals and were greeted with cold towels, cold drink and newpapers. A little man took care of the luggage for us and took us down to the pick up area called the car over and loaded our luggage in. Very nice Merc.

Arrived at the hotel and escorted to the Club Lounge for check in. Again cold drinks and towels offered. Our room was on 35th floor looking east but we could still see the harbour and the island.
Whilst not a huge room it was very very comfortable. A huge US style sized bed suitable to land a helicopter on. Ihome, 42in plasma TV etc etc. All in all just what was required.

A slight digression here - we did overhear someone complaining the room was too small and he didn't want to make a fuss but .... [:o)] Why do people say that when they obvioulsy are? The room sizes if I remember correctly are on the website. And also he wanted to inspect his mother in-laws room as she was very fussy cleaninesswise, but he did add his room was lovely and clean though. We were both taken aback by the claim to have a mother in-law as we had both clocked he was on our team as it were.[}:)]

Back to the report.
We used the Club to its full - with alcohol being available between 0600 and 0100 and this included champagne. The pool on the 41st floor was novel and made for a relaxing getaway with spectacular views. All the staff we encountered were nothing short of charming and polite and all requests dealt with quickly and effiently.

I had always fancied staying at the Peninsula but the costs were too excessive and as I had previously stayed in Mong Kok didn't have a problem staying there again. Indeed with all the construction work taking place around the Pen and also over on the Island am glad we stayed at the LP. If we go back to HK we will definitely stay here again.

Out of pure decadence, just to finish the holiday off we had a limo back to the airport.

I have a mother-in-law my BF's mother!?! [}:)]

Thanks for the report, I loved HK. Don't you just love the Club Floors, we stayed at the IC and drank lots of free booze in the club room!

I'm not convinced of the legal status of the 'in-law' bit so we just leave it as Mother L and Mother T.;)

I think these club rooms are fantastic and much more suited to the leisure traveller who has the time and inclination to use them.

I've just booked 3 nights in a club room for when we come back from our UK trip next year.

We stayed at the Pen last time we were in Hong Kong (honeymoon) but the free champagne at the Langham won it for me this time. [:p]

Now there's a good point, I'll refer to my Debrett's on the status of civilly partnered parents ... ooops, strangely it doesn't cover than one :D.

That said, I've always referred to mine as the MiL.

Just to chip in a bit further about this great hotel :D

We have just returned from a 7 night stay there. We booked Club Level rooms and I have to say were worth every penny !. We received the same treatment as RobL on arrival in the Club Lounge and like Rob we made very good use of the lounge throughout the week.
You are welcomed in the lounge at any time with a friendly smile from the staff. Food is served at various times of day including a very good healthy breakfast, pastries, fruit, yoghurt etc and a chef on hand to cook fresh omlettes of choice. In the evening it was nice to pop in after a meal and have a coffee, brandy or whatever else you fancied.
We didnt go in much during the daytime but I think you could have afternoon tea, scones, jam etc etc.
Before I leave the subject of the lounge one other brill point for us was having a flight at 2330, what do we do between the 1400 check out and leaving later. The club staff took our cases into a store, gave us lockers for the spa facilities and made us welcome all day despite the fact we had checked out, they even pressed my shirt for the trip. So we were able to shower and change etc in the Spa before setting off.

The rooms are on the small side but they are exactly as described on the website. They are very comfortable and have everything you need for an enjoyable stay, inc free WiFi.

The Spa was out of this world, I managed to squeeze a couple of wonderful massages in during the week !!

Personally I felt the location of the hotel was perfect, 1 min walk to the MTR station at Mongkok. Immediately within yards of the hotel you were amongst the local life of HK, including the sights, sounds and smells..... it was a real hub of life 24/7, lots of shops, markets etc .... including Mong Kok computer market!. I could however see the location not being everyones cup of tea, but if you love travel and mixing in then you will love it.

Probably things I have forgotten, anyone thinking of staying there with any questions please feel free to ask :)

Cheers

Thanks for the report - nice to know another good place to stay...

It's the mother-in-law alright ;). You don't get the benefits without the disadvantages [:w][}:)] - that'd be discriminatory. ;)

Thanks for the review [y]

Really looking forward to our stop over.

Were the spa treatments expensive, or pretty much what you'd expect for a 5* hotel?

Couldn't agree more

And why not - why do we all have to be the same? [}:)]
