Hi - looking for a good 4* type hotel in SF - downtown - not in the
F Wharf area.
I'd normally use the Hilton group as I'm a HH Gold but the downtown hotel does not look that hot?
Any recommendations welcomed.
cheers
Andrew

I can recommend the financial district Hilton. Stayed there in feb and quite enjoyed it. price was a lot better than the Main Hilton, and the chinese laundry next door (shirts 99c each) was a god send. It's right on the border of china town, and if you get a room with a north view, the views are fantastic!

Our 2 most recent stays in SFO have both been at the main hilton on OÕFarrell Street.I like it, we have always been upgraded(HH Au at the time)it has a decent bar/room service/restaurant.Rates have been competitive and IMO offered very good value for the central location. The views from the upper floors and the club lounge are spectacular.Don't bother paying for the club access as it isn't up to much aside from the view oh and its a pay bar[V].

I have stayed in The Fairmont, The Mark Hopkins and The Renaissance, all very different, all very good and convenient for cable car to wherever you may want to go.

A couple of years ago had a great stay at the Argent Hotel on Third Street. Had a nice high floor and great views over MoMA (all from Priceline, no less...)
Its now been rebranded as the Westin on Market Street.

I cannot recommend the Four Seasons on Market Street highly enough. Immaculate hotel, great location (couple of blocks from Union Square), stunning restaurant with a really cool British chef running things.
Whatever you decide to do, stay away from the Wharf...

I tend to use the Westin St Francis due to a really good corp rate I have there, and the location is good. Might try the W next time as we now have a reasonable rate there too.
