Maxjet/upper class

I don`t know if this has already been discussed before, but maxjet reviewers mention being transferred to virgin upper class if their flight is cancelled. Is there some sort of contract between the two airlines or do maxjet just foot the bill at virgin (and why virgin and not another trans atlantic carrier)?

Only other airline that covers all of their routes direct (e.g. las vegas)?

I've heard it said, but it might just be isolated cases. I don't think it's a guarantee or anything.

My understanding is that Maxjet have an "understanding" with VS, I am guessing they foot the bill, but that is not 100% assured.
Also it is on a space available basis.

suppose it is a bit of give and take - maybe one day VS passengers will get shifted to Maxjet flights on routes such as LAS if really overbooked??

I doubt it, though Maxjet say they are a J class airline, having flown them I would say they are more like a very good PE airline.

Then again with the degradation of a certain airlines food and inconsistent service and the price difference that can be found, they rate as an airline to think about if flying in and out of STN is not an issue.

My wife and I had booked Maxjet, IAD to London Stansted, but the flight was cancelled and we were offered Virgin Upper Class, IAD-LHR. My wife had flown Maxjet a number of times and raved about the on board service. By comparison, in her words, Virgin Upper Class was "awful". I would have to agree. The seating arrangement is cramped. If you're travelling with someone, it is impossible to sit and chat - you might as well be at the other end of the plane. The food was skimpy and terrible - certainly not up to business class standards. The lie flat seat was hard and made me feel that I was in a cage. There are many other negatives I could go on about, but suffice to say that I'm glad Maxjet gave me the opportunity to experience Upper Class at Maxjet's competitive prices so I will never waste my money on a full fare Upper Class ticket in the future"

Some pretty damning reports on that site. What appears to be interesting is the higher frequency of Economy and Premum Economy Reports than the number we see here.
I'll have to keep an eye on that site in future.

I think one has to keep an open mind on sites such as airlinequality, tripadvisor and other similar ones - and yea even our own beloved V-Flyer. What is one man's meat is another man's poison. In February I am taking my niece to South Africa. She doesn't know it yet, nor will she until she gets on the plane but she is travelling in UC. She will think the Clubhouse experience is because of my gold card and I know, unless there is any major service defect, she will rave for months to come about the flight and the whole experience, while I, unless I suspend judgement, will merely pick holes in the service.

I could not agree more.

The other half took her first UC flight last year and is still raving about it, for me the flights were ok, for her....well she is now demanding UC again and will not even consider anything under a J seat on long haul [:#]...Of course this is where Maxjet can save the day and the $$ for me [y]

I went from STN to LAX on a day flight with a mate... I loved the flight!!! It was great to be able to sit n talk to him. I had a 3 hour dozzzzzzz and was fine when I woke up.

On the flight back, as you would expect, after a few days in LAS, I was so so SO very tired.... I slept for almost 8 hours on the way back.

For me, the sleep was not as "solid" as I get from VS UCS, but it was still good! Given the price difference, the flat bed from VS would have offered more sleep, but sleep hour for the buck, I got a good deal from Maxjet!!!

The other week on a Washington trip, we were only supposed to be half full in Upper Class on both sectors. However we ended up being completely full on both flights due to Maxjet cancelling and transferring all passengers.

Can't see it happening too much on a Vegas flight as with only 14 J seats, we are always full anyway
