Hello to all from a long time viewer, now first time poster. I am planning a week in Orlando in January, and the best deal that i could find would mean flying with US Airways. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what to expect?

Hello and welcome :D

In my dim, and distance past I've flown US Airways from London Gatwick to Orlando via Philly. Apart from losing my luggage and then delivering it 24 hours later they were fine [}:)]

Chances are that you'll be doing a split flight via one of their hubs on the Eastern Coast of America so you'll need to give some thought to weather conditions in February when there may be Snow around.

I've been re - routed via Houston going to Orlando in February as Newark was shut, and I've sat on a Delta MD 80 at Covington waiting for them to clear the runway, and de - ice the plane ... again in February [^]

In particular the diversion to Houston resulted in me arriving at Orlando at Midnight !

I have to say that I might be tempted to wait for another Virgin sale as the days of American carriers being cheaper with a split flight via a hub seem to be long gone [:(!]

Thanks for the welcome. The route is out of Gatwick to Charlotte, then to MCO. I am planning on traveling in economy, which is the main reason that I am asking. I have heard that their international economy product leaves a lot to be desired!

Actually right now their whole product leaves a lot to be desired, if you get a US 330 it shouldn't be to bad, pretty much on par with the industry. Domestic, well it is ok, not something I go out of my way to do.

My advice, go in expecting the worse, if it is better then [y], if not then remember and keep repeating to yourself you are only on the plane for a short while.

Bring your own sustinence and a good book or two, don't expect amazing results and you should be fine.

From what I hear, US are by no means the worst trans-atlantic airline compared to other US carriers, but I wouldn't hope for too much.

Well as long as you get an A330 it won't be a bad flight. They have AVOD systems, in flight power and ok seat pitch....well no the seat pitch sucks, but it does on every Y product no days.

If you have to flight across an ocean on a US carrier in coach, right now US or NW are the way to go just due to the AVOD.

Domestic..it is just going to be a cattle car run, I have found that the Y product has pretty much stayed the same over the last couple of years, while the C and J products are now very below par.

Of course you could earn VS miles on all these flights which is a [y] and you will not have to use Mesa which runs their west coast feeder system and sucks major d***.

As I said before, don't expect anything amazing and you will be ok.


As a side note...US is/has taken out the old C cabin on the A333 and is combining it with the regular Envoy cabin...meaning the one last great perk of having a Chairmans card has/is flying out the window [:#]

As someone who flies LGW-MCO fairly often may I recomend DL.

They always seem to be there or there abouts with US on price but offer a much more updated Y service with leather seats throughout, menus to all, AVOD/touch screen entertainment, computer games etc.

Whilst ATL is interesting- DL have got international transfers down to a tee over there.

I would personally stay clear of US but would go for DL and if your an FC member you can get some miles. Just my 2 cents worth anyway.

I thought the 330s were always two-class with just Y and Envoy[?]

Nope..the 330's had one row of first LINK Row 1 used to be the first class cabin, though most of the time it was where the Chairmans card holders were moved to because...well nobody in their right mind would actually pay for US international first.

Well it was an F, the one trip I did in it was very nice..though I was traveling with two US VP's at the time, that may of had something to do with it [:I]
