The delays suffered by some pax are being mentioned but FAR more important is the mention that their ETOPS certification had been withdrawn for a period of 4 weeks last year.

I don't like the sound of that.

Yeh ETOPS withdrawal and other matters was mentioned in this thread

It was only for two weeks but the fact that they are the first UK airline to ever have this done to them is worrying.

There delay stats were awful: 75% of Glasgow-Toronto delayed, 89% EDI-Nice delayed.

The excuse used by the airline on Watchdog was poor. They cited that they had to lease in two a/c and these were what caused them all the problems. The truth as, the majority of aviation geeks know, is that they had two newly acquired 767s off Air New Zealand. Instead of putting these into service with they decided they could lease them to Air India and make more money. This is why they had to lease two a/c in. If the airline had not be so greedy in the first place and opertated the two nearly new 767s instead of sending them to AI they would have had no problems.

Indeed, even though it's nice to get a load of cash from leasing out aircraft, it doesn't bode well with customers when someone realises "Oh s*** we haven't got anything to do these flights!"

ETOPS withdrawal is a bad thought nonetheless, and if they have any sense they will learn from these mistakes for next Summer, otherwise the administrators will be getting a call.
