Quickie query..

Will security let you take a camera tripod on-board a flight, inside your hand luggage?

Unlikely if it's outside and inside it would be a very small tripod. A lot of tripods have spikes on the feet and would be taken off you and put below. Plus it's likely to put you over your weight allowance.

Personally I wrap mine in big bubble wrap, inside my main case and check it in. Mine's carbon fiber and has survived each time.

Mine's light-weight, and collapses down to 12"; no spikes.
And I was hoping to travel without hold baggage..

My brain tells me not to take it.

Give the FC a call and be guided by them.

Hmm.. yes, but I wonder if such issues are the realm - and perhaps whim - of CAA +/- local airport security policies?

Down to whoever does the screening I'm afraid. At 12", you might be able to get it inside your bag - head taken off.

Thats about the same size as mine and never had an issue....the rest of the stuff I pack in my hand luggage sends security into a fit though [y]

Hmm.. I'd quite like something like that. Now what's the chances they sell one in EDI departure lounge?! Ach well..

Thanks for the comments..
