Continental have announced the following timetable for their LHR operations following the open skies agreement between the US. Slots came from GB Airways and they will be operating into Terminal 4 with the other Skyteam airlines.

Operations still continue from LGW on the LGW-IAH (daily, 764), LGW-EWR (twice daily both with 757) and LGW-CLE(daily with 757).

No news on if the LHR routes will be codeshared with VS or if the VS/CO agreement will end.

My thoughts are the timings are better than DL's timetable and with good connections into LGW from EWR they will do well. Will be nice to see 762 back at LHR on Transatlantic ops.

P.S. these flights all still depend on UK and US government permission.

Also, the CO press release still advertises the fact that CO code-shares with VS, but the flight times are so similar it would be interesting to see which airline calls off the code-share first.

Will the LGW ops continue if/when CO move into LHR?

I'd be surprised to see the Continental codeshare surviving for very long - the LHR move is quite aggressive and then as VS America builds up the network ... glad to see btw two VS America A320s at JFK this week lining up next to a 346 and 747!

That's not such a bad thing: Austin is a hot bed of IT development (Dell, Intel, etc) so will help.

However, the strength of the brands on the EWR / JFK route is very high... Not sure continental have the reddies to compete on product. Maybe on price?

Must remember that CO routes from the UK into EWR are the bread and butter for the airline. EWR is a massive hub for them and considering all the corporate contracts and the loyality of CO frequent fliers I am sure they will do just fine. After all when I think of EWR the first carrier that pops into my head is CO.

They are currently in the middle of upgrading their LH fleet- with AVOD new Businessfirst seats etc.

Also to be put into the equation is the feed they will get from other Skyteam partners at LHR.

It is worth remembering that alot of the pax on the route will transit either down to Lagos or Dubai. I would imagine that there is alot of corporate deals on the route. After all the reason why we now see DXB-IAH direct is due to a massive Halliburton deal. (And LGW-Raleigh/Durham is due to a massive Glaxo deal).

You must also remember that Houston is a massive hub for them as well, they route a lot of traffic through there as well as EWR.
