Good find thanks[y]At least now the 30 minutes on the phone will be productive.I had forgot how bad it had become until I had to make a booking on a FHR rate for an upcoming trip.

Fine Hotel and Resorts - Amex Plat/Cent benefit.

FHR - Fine Hotel & Resorts. It's a programme offered to Platinum and Centurion members globally where negotiated rates are done at certain upmarket hotels. All of the rates include:

4pm late checkout
Breakfast for 2 each morning
Upgrade at time of booking (Centurion), or at check-in (Plat) if avail
& then a special amenity per hotel once per stay. Typically a free lunch for 2, or $100 spa credit. Varies

More detail here.

Sometimes the rates are same as what is available (but then you need to factor in the above benefits. Sometimes they are really good rates.

Thanks,
Richard

Hi, sorry if this has been asked before (had a quick look but couldn't find anything!)

Do you need to book your hotel with Amex Plat or can you simply hand over your card at reception when you check in? I have just signed up for Plat and received my card but I have already booked Bellagio for June. Won't be a major issue if I can't get the perks but just thought I'd ask!

Thanks

Steven

You have to book the FHR rates through Plat Travel Services and it needs to be booked as an FHR rate (not all room at FHR hotels are FHR rates!). You could always cancel your reservation with the Ballagio (if it was direct) and get a refund and then book through PTS - with the FHR benefits it could be worth it.

There is quite a lot of useful info over on FT in the AmEx forums that as I new Plat card holder I have found really useful.

Thanks for that, Neil.

The reservation was direct so I'll check with Plat Travel Service and see what can be done. Do you know if you still pay the hotel directly or if you have to pay Amex? The reason I ask is that my partner and I always seem to rack up a lot of player points when we do Vegas and last time we had all but one night comped by the hotel. I don't know if they could do this if the stay was already fully paid.

I know that Amex could answer these questions but, from reading loads of these forums, you guys on here seem to know so much about these things whereas you can get lots of conflicting responses from the companies themselves.

Thanks for the info on FT. I'll check it out.

Cheers,

Steven

Let me start by saying I am by no means an expert on FHR/Plat issues having only just got a Plat card myself but I am learning.

You pay the hotel directly upon check out, but if you have booked an FHR rate then, from what I understand, you must pay with an AmEx card (doesn't have to be the Plat card, can be say you BA AmEx if that suits better). Like your direct reservation with the Ballagio you will prob have to pay a deposit that will be refundable if you cancel within the usual periods.

FHR rates don't tend to have the advance payment requirement. It seems to be a bit of a Vegas thing.

That is true and our recent booking at the Skylofts in Vegas didn't require a deposit, but the one at The Wynn did[ii]
