Now seems that all the big legacy carriers except NW are at LHR.
Yesterday US Airways announced it will start a daily 330 service from LHR to PHL. The times are not the best for a once daily flight.
Slots came from BD and looks like LGW will be scrapped or operated by the 757. No news on a BD codeshare.

I cant see the demand for 4 lots of LON-PHL services so will be interesting to see how long the LGW routes last. I think LGW will see a lot of services axed by start of 2009.

Couldnt agree more.
People in the States are already talking about major mergers over there like AF-KLM in Europe.
I think come five years we will see just two major US airlines. DL and UA are the latest to be touted to jump into bed together.
As for European based carriers- I would be worried if I was BD and even VS.

Perhaps that's why BD is looking at routes other than US. VS must be worried, even it's 49% shareholder wants a piece of the action!!!

I think you will hope ... I've yet to see any competition have a downward effect on prices from Heathrow ...

Except silverjet on Business class fares.
Clear data showing both BA and VS are cutting CW and UC fares by c£1000 at the moment.

I can definitely see some consolidation of the majors across the pond. NW/CO would be my guess as the first merger.
I expect the LGW-PHL will be scrapped as I can't see there being sufficient traffic to warrant three services per day from London.
