Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo: As good as they say?

As part of our 'Oriental Expedition' in September, just had confirmed 6 nights at the MO, Tokyo. We have asked for a corner room as this seems one of the better (although they all seem 'superior').

Reading TripAdvisor, so many are calling it 'One of the best in the world'. Is this truly the case? Has anyone here first hand expereince of the hotel and indeed the Corner Room - is it a room worth having?

Incidentally, we are staying at the Pen. in Beijing (Club room) and Shangri-La in Shanghai, trying to get Horizons Grand Bund view. Both seem good!

Thanks.

Yes it was great :) The Tokyo Bitches stayed there last Easter and it was probably one of the best hotels we've stayed in.

Edited by Decker to agree with Mrs Decker [:P]

We really had a great time there, and the rooms are lovely (although to be honest I think that the corner rooms at the Landmark in Hong Kong are better).

You must try and book the Molecular Tapas. It is very popular so make reservations in advance. It is a fantastic experience![:)]

Thanks for the link Decker [:D]

Taking into account everything (service, location, rooms, all the little extra bits) I would go as far as to say its the Best hotel I've stayed in. And we only had a standad room.

Yes.

Book through Amex if you have one, we got upgraded from Corner to Premier and free breakfast each day and one free lunch.

Wow - interesting to say the least! Looks fascinating, something I will have to try (apart from perhaps, the eel!)

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

Another one to say the MO is a quite amazing hotel, some of the best service I have ever experienced. Oh and sit down in the Lounge Bar as often as you can ... just to see how many hot towels you can get during your stay! Each time you sit down for a drink or meal you'll get one.
