I'm on my mobile!

Apologies if this has been duplicated or in the wrong place. [:I]
It looks the humble traveller will not going to get any peace on any flight anymore! (well, european to start of with.)
I always hated it when someone is on a mobile in close proximity to me on a train/tube/bus/airport and make no effort to be considerate.[:(!]
I remember on a BA flight from BCN where a business man, firstly wouldn't get off phone when we were taxi-ing (sic) from the gate and then wouldn't shut his laptop down when we we're descending in LHR and it wasn't until the CC threaten him with the 'You'll never fly with BA again', he closed his laptop (but not shut it down)
Rant over! [:I]
Thread moved to 'other airlines', as it is not a Virgin specific thread.... Nick

Not quite the same.
Time to start a campaign to stop the airlines introducing it.

Darren,
Sorry! when I put my second post up, I must admit to not reading your link. (D'oh) [:I]
But after reading, it's not the same. However, if it's going to be OK to do it on Emirates and on European flights, I dread to think of when it will be rolled out to all flights.
I can't think of anything worse than listening to someone else's business.
Somehow, unless SRB comes out with some scheme to appease all of us, I can see VS following suit. Maybe VS could have a scheme where you have to stand up and go to the exit spaces to make phone calls and none in your seat.

Like the trains - a quiet zone perhaps.
I suggest the toilets!

Did think about the toilets but can you imagine the uproar if a toilet in UCS/PE is engaged for a long time because someone decides to have a business conference call.
What on the wing?[;)]

So long as the call is charged at roaming rates, I dont see it being a huge issue.

Beg to differ there. Imagine being sat in a 3-4-3 config in seat B and both sides a loud conversation is going on. Murder could follow and I can see a big increase in 'air rage'....

Don't VS ac already have phones at each seat? I've never heard anyone on one/anyone complaining so the demand can't be there - assuming the same penal charges will be used.

I think the cost of the current fixed phone is about £/$9 a minute, can't quite remember which. Never seen one used though either.

Not all aircarft, but for sure some do have telephones on the reverse of the entertainment control.
However your sentiment was similar to mine. With mobile/cell phone roaming charges or airplane satelite phone charges the cost for casual conversation is prohibitive.

As the title of the topic says;
'Yes, I'm on my mobile, what! I'm on a plane, that's lots of angry people looking at me! What! I can't hear you, What! you can't hear me, I'll talk louder' (in a loud Dom Jolly voice) [:D]
As Darren says, the caller will have lots of listeners around them trying not to listen but can't.
Maybe VS's gimmick could be to offer Bose headphones to everyone. Nah! they go walkies at the end of the flight!

I agree with you Darren, it could be HELL on those flights, with people having there mobile, and shouting are you there? I can't hear you!!! I wonder if they will operate mobile phone free flights! Now that would be good! [y]

If the phone jammers they sell in the States work on mobiles without interfering with the plane we may have a solution, but that's probably just wishful thinking? Personally I think one of the great things about plane travel as opposed to other forms of transport is the fact that it is now one of the few places where I can't be contacted.

This may be so, however for many people travelling on business it's somewhat academic ...
As for EK - with who I fly a lot - if it gets intrusive they'll lose my custom. That is as others say, until everybody does the same.
