DL and NW agree to merge

Will be interesting to see how this all pans out and whether routes get axed or started in the months after the merger is complete.
Daft question, but will the new airline be combined to run under one name (I remember DL saying that any merger must keep the DL name or no deal), run as separate entities but on paper its the one airline, or a new name, or will it be along the lines of Air France/KLM?

Great news is all hubs will stay in place. Airline to be Headquartered in Atlanta. Webcast will be held online at http://www.newglobalairline.com
A guy on a.net has produced a route map showing what a merged DL and NW would look like and I must admit it is fairly impressive and a true global airline. Even Africa, which has in the past not be served well by American carriers, is now covered by DL with services to Dakar, Lagos, Accra and Joburg.
Keep Delta My Delta was to do with the proposed merger with US about 18 months ago. Their website has now been shut down.
I had thought this would be a KLM-AF kind of deal but rethinking I believe we may have a new airline name. After AF-KLM have kept their names as they are both national carriers. DL/NW press release is very much focused on 'a new global airline' this would indicate a possible name change. Time will tell.

Makes sense NW is not exactly the global name they would be looking for. Maybe if the UA / CO merger goes ahead they can become InterContinental [:)]

NW is more of a global brand than DL it could be argued. NW is massive in Asia with its hub at NRT and has been for a number of decades. DL is much more european focused. So i guess your idea of a 'global' brand depends on where in the world you are.
Interesting having looked at the website I can find nothing from DL/NW stating that the DL brand will be kept. The use of the website address 'anewglobalairline.com' sort of hints that a name change could happen. After all why not use the address 'thenewdelta.com'?!
It really is a very interesting time for American aviaiton in general, following a number of high profile collapses, it seems the way forward for the industry is to make mega carriers to be able to compete with the likes of EK and SQ. Time will tell if the same happens in Europe.

I agree that NW is more global. I was simply referring the the name itself - 'NorthWest' sounds a little regional.

Ahhh I get you! Well it will be interesting to see what happens with the other legacy carriers.
