International Phone Cards

I've tried searching and couldn't find a topic on this subject, but if anyone else does please point me in the right direction[8D]

We're going away for one month, to the Far East, Australia and South Pacific. Clearly in this time we're going to want to call home and we don't want a massive mobile phone bill each to come back to!

Can anyone recommend a phone card that will preferably work in hotels, that will give us cheap calls back to the UK? There seem to be a myriad of different cards and companies![?]

You can always get a roaming SIM card for your mobile - http://www.gosim.com seem to offer some of the best prices. I'm planning on getting one for our next USA trip in September.

We use IDT but a lot of Hotels now charge for Free Calls to discourage the use of them...

When in the U.S we use 7 Eleven phone cards for calling the UK. They offer good value and last for 6 months from first use. We always keep a $5 one for emergencies at the airport just in case.

Having just returned from Hong Kong, I know there are many 7 Elevens there too but I am not sure if they offer a similar card but its quite possible.

I am sorry but I have no experience of phone card use in Australia.

Enjoy your trip.

There are plenty of 7-Elevens and other convenience stores in Sydney and they all sell international phonecards. You don't actually get a phonecard, you get a till-printed receipt with the numbers on it and you just have to dial a local (or freephone) number to access international calls.
