Air Asia to fly from Stansted

Flights starting in March to KL.

In typical airline style I can't find any 99 one way tickets. The cheapest I've got it to is about 450 rtn including the extras like food (not allowed to consume your own), 'comfort kits' and 20kg of luggage each way.

Wonder how many people will take the 'risk' of booking with a long haul budget airline, even one with a decent regional backup?

A friend of mine was lookig on Tuesday night and she could find the £99 flights so they were there. Not surpised they all dissappeared though.

Interesting to see how long this lasts, echos of a certain Hong Kong carrier...

Well the real action come when AirAsiaX start offering STN-KUL-SIN/SYD/MEL/Oz/Kiwi connection. Oh they could do family fares with three beers for Pop, three wines for Mom, milk for kids, etc. Could work nicely.

Like I have said before, long haul specialty carriers (LCC/all-same class) only works if you have a route network to feed into.

Interestingly they were still advertising it in the Lite last night - full page, bright red, hard to miss... Changed on their site today to from £179.

Having the advantage of a fairly large, cheap network to feed passengers into I'd suspect they have a better chance of lasting than some.

They had a piece on the business news on Radio 2s drivetime show last night - interview with Chief Executive. I think they mentioned that 3500 of the 10000 tickets sold yesterdate were £99 - went in 4 hours.

If you want to listen go here and listen at around 01:22:15. Available until December 3rd only.
