When I am searching for hotels, I always check the hotel directly, and then also with third parties, such as Expedia/Hotels.com, Lastminute.com, Opodo, airline hotel websites etc.

I noticed a few really lovely websites recently when researching Prague - and they actually beat the 'established' ones hands down, with three for two offers....

Tablet Hotels - a website I was aware of already, but always thought they just checked the inventory of the hotel via GDS, so they surprised me with the extra offers!

Mr & Mrs Smith - this one was good but seemed to struggle with Safari for some reason.

Design Hotels - This one was my favourite, clear pricing and tax information and lots of hotels I've never heard of, even in London. Where I work. In the hotel business.

I also found travelsupermarket.com recently - very useful for flights! Particularly if you don't know which airport to use. For example I wanted to find direct flights to Berlin, on there I can select destination as Berlin but three starting cities to check prices from. Very useful!
