Hello one and all,

Happy New Year. Was wondering if anyone had visited Vietnam before and might be able to offer me some advice.

Ooh, spooky. I was literally just looking at Vietnam and Laos. I havent been myself but a friend at work has and sent me a lot of tips (and photos). Where were you thinking of going?

I believe FamilyMan's wife hails from Vietnam so perhaps he can give you some tips too.

Thanks,
Sarah

I had a friend that was over there for a while...of course that was back in '68.

He actually says that the people that were not shooting at him were very nice and it is a country he would off liked to visit again.

She does indeed and used to be a tour guide before we were married and moved back to the UK. We have both returned frequently to visit relatives - although the last visit was in 2006.

Things are developing and changing fast over there and whereas 10 years ago there were only a handful of luxury hotels and the country was a mainstay for backpackers and adventure travellers there is now a lot more for the high-end travellers.

Give me some idea of what you are looking for and maybe I can give you a few pointers. Hoi An is good for a few days - there is a beach 2 miles down the road and plenty of excursions - Marble Mountain, My Son. If you have a little more time I would recommend Saigon, Dalat, Nha Trang and Hue - Ha Long Bay, close to Hanoi is fantastic also but depends on season. How long are you looking for and what time of the year.

P.S. Did anyone see the Top Gear Vietnam special over Christmas?
