Just Thinking of holiday ideas and looked at South Africa, Its somewhere I have always wanted to adventure, however im not compleatly convinced it's a safe family holiday destination, there is sertainly alot of thing to see and do but ive heard there is alot of crime there especially in Johannesburg, and so I don't know if its worth the long trip down there.

Anyone been on holiday to South Africa?
Did you have a good or bad experiance?
Is South Africa worth a visit?

Given the chance, I'd head to cape town every winter, only managed a couple of visits so far.

Yes J'Burg has a rep for being a nightmare, and chatting with family friends who have close family around J'Burg suggest not the best for family holiday destination. [:0]

But Cape town a much different environ and more so the surrounding area is fantastic, safe, clean, relatively cheap, fantastic food/ people/ things to do.
Its expecting the football world cup, so its in its own interest. God help them..[B)]

We took our daughter at 10 wks old, buggy pushing across top of table mountain! all the restaurants & accommodation extremely child friendly. If you like your food and wine, you can't go far wrong. You don't feel unsafe (& we're not naive)
Waterfront area is the place to stay in cape town , especially if you're with family, or split with some time in Winelands, again if with family try looking at http://www.spier.co.za

I took my wife there last April to J'Burg and the Kruger. You can read about it at http://markhayden.co.uk/
In July 06, I spent 2 weeks working in J'Burg, and as long as you are careful it's not a bad place to be. I drove myself around both times, with no issues at all.

We will certainly go back, we had a great time.

I'd support everything already said.

We skipped J'Burg (except for the airport) and split our time between Kruger and Cape Town. We kept on the tourist trail and never once felt at risk.

Waterfront is a safe bet, or Camps Bay if you want to stay outside of town.

Have a great time!
