Getting sexy with flight bookings

Well as it is 1.40 in the morning and I am searching for things to do, I decided to look for silly routes for our trip to London later in the year. For the first time in a few years we have the time to play silly buggers with our flights, meaning spending an extra day in say Amsterdam or Paris isn't going to kill us.

LAX - LON Sept 10th return the 17th, dates are flexible.

The silly routes comprised of airlines I have not flown, routes I normally would not consider, the normal anorak thing [:I]

First Air Canada

Their fleet is getting a very nice upgrade up front, but the 40 minute connection time is a little tight for me, though there is a later flight so if we miss it then we can move to that one. the $3100 price is nice as well.

For some reason Aer Lingus is reaching out to me..however they don't fly out to SFO until OCt, but I check out of JFK for kicks...

Let's see $4685 in J mmmm NOT, not to mention that the connection to LHR leaves an hour and a half BEFORE we land, ok EI you have proved yourself to me.

L'Avion....

Now this is interesting.

$700 each way out of EWR plus I earn BA miles, spend a day in Paris then eurostar it over to London

Air Tahiti

Well the dates are a little off, but I have heard great things about them but $3500 plus all the switching around in Paris, not worh the hassle.

Fin air

$5k...nope stop right there..plus I still have my nordic ban to work around

Air New Zealand

$3700.... However I can also try and get a reward flight for the far better half, the food is far better than VS.

And just to compare

VS

$3600

BA

$3800

AA

$3900 !

The other things that I am seeing, which is really annoying the hell out of me..

Taxes + fee's

VS $645 CO $206 BA $707 WTF ???

The website told me that it doesn't start till Oct, as I said, giving me a connection before my flight from NYC arrives indicates to me that there are other issues.

From the website

Wednesday 09 September 2009

'Flights do not operate on your selected travel date/s. Aer Lingus operates from Oct 26 2008 - Mar 28 2009 on days Mon Wed Fri Sun '

Are they killing the SFO route ?

Edit:

Ok By just putting in the SFO - LHR part I got it to work....$5500....yeah ok....Next

Hmmm! Just did a dummy booking and got the same response. However when I change the London bit to Dublin, Voila! It's there in black and white. You'd just have to book the DUB-LHR leg separately

Yeah..$5500 + via Dublin, or $3600 direct on other airlines, not going to happen.

Come on peps, put your thinking caps on.

I can not argue with you there...

L'avion sounds the most interesting - they are now part of the BA OpenSkies airline which explains the miles.

I've heard average things about Air Canada.

Oh I'm right with you there Honey Lamb [y]

The Aer Lingus Premier fares never cease to amaze me, for what is an altogether inferior product, both on the ground & in the air, compared to just about everyone else.

I've been looking at fares to IAD for next May.

VS UC ex LHR = Û1500.00

BA CW ex LHR = Û1510.00

BA FIRST ex LHR = Û2584.00

(granted all sale fares)

Then we have EI direct from DUB = Û2674.61 [ii]

Given that on the VS & BA fares ex LHR, you only need to add on Û120.00 for an EI flight DUB-LHR return, why on earth would anyone choose to fly direct to IAD with EI [:0]

Particularly the BA FIRST fare.

So lets see now, I can fly direct with EI for Û2674.61, or fly First Class with BA for Û2704. MMmmmm well lets see now [:?]

Aer Lingus are a strange one - they used to have great through fares, and with the customs clearance in Dublin it was a real selling point. For my flights to BOS, they were £402 return, but VS Premium Economy was £518. No contest... didn't EI always used to have an amazing seat sale in January?

EDIT: Which is probably why they same so expensive. Every other airline has an amazing seat sale at the moment!
