Most of the information is readily available already through airlines, immigration records etc. The only bit that is new is putting it all in one place.

That one place being in a briefcase, left on a train perhaps? [:D]

Thanks,

...and entrusting it to the government to do what it wants with - for instance, rationing flights:

and losing the data of course...

The government doesn't quite have the monopoly on losing data just yet. Give them chance though....

Personally, I am surprised it has taken so long for this to be announced - I suppose it has taken HMG this long to work out what the computer database should look like and then get a myriad of companies to do what many V-Flyers could put together in a few days[}:)]

No - it's just taken this long to admit to what they have been doing for years.[;)]

A few days? Normally over lunch, whilst scoffing an expensive and disappointing tuna sandwich, hula hoops and coke, and whilst reading the footie scores from the night before [:p]

Hmmm, we don't seem to be upset that the US gov. does this [:w]

I'm most interested in the data they want to keep, like seat reservations. Does someone in Whitehall have an interest in my fave seat?

Yes, so they can book it before you!

I agree slinky ! and we have to be fingerprinted and have our pics taken (no smiling) too on entry and now have to be ESTA approved too now but there are no howls of protest over that.

Perhaps this system would be more palatable if the Government chased up any missing frequent flyer miles for you at the same time

After all, they've got all of the data, so doing this should be quite easy!
