V-Flyer

As there seem to have been a few reports of train journeys as well as a few pictorial reports lately, I thought I would combine the two and report on my trip to Cambridge today (8 June) for a job interview, giving my brain the opportunity to focus on something slightly different.

The trip started the previous Wednesday afternoon when I found out I had been shortlisted I bought my tickets from the First Great Western site as they are currently running a promotion with 5 off tickets costing 6 or more for the first 200,000 registrants (offer ends 30 June). The cost pre-discount coming to 18.15 and no need to pay either credit card or collection fees as is the case with websites such as Qjump and thetrainline.

Monday morning and I took the tube to Kings Cross in the Metro was a story in relation to the first anniversary of the opening of the V Room at Gatwick which apparently has been used by 52,480 passengers.



Arrived a bit early for my 8.45 train so took a little wonder round St. Pancras before heading off to Kings Cross.







The platform was announced at 8.30 and we boarded the First Capital Connect train whose final destination was Kings Lynn. We departed on time and the journey was smooth with no hiccups exactly what youre after when off to an interview! As a commuter train, there was no snack cart, just the ticket inspector. We arrived in Cambridge just after 9.30 and got the bus to Addenbrookes where I met a friend and realised we had taken exactly the same train and bus from London without realising!

Interviews over, my friend and I headed back to the station and caught the 12.15 back to Kings Cross which was just as the first journey smooth and efficient. So in conclusion, a short trip to Cambridge and back where everything was clean, on time and hassle-free. All in all, a very pleasant experience just the outcome of the interview to worry about!

Thanks for the report and pictures. The only problem with the rail station in Cambridge is its location which, though conventient for Addenbrookes, is a good hike away from the city centre. It shares that characteristic with Oxford. It was always said that this was a deliberate act to deter the young gentlemen from travelling to London.

Thanks for the comments - have to say it was very much a case of station to Addenbrooke's to station as I had to be back in London in the afternoon. As for the interview, expect to hear in the next couple of days so fingers crossed!
