I'm sort of glad they had to make alternative arrangements if they chose to get off

How on earth do the BBC classify that as 'newsworthy'???
And why do people over-react despite clear messages from the crew that things are fine? Do people REALLY think the crew would endanger THEMSELVES - let alone the passengers?
Most small (<100 passengers) aircraft do this as STANDARD operating procedure. [ii]

indeed so; try flying in a Cessna 6 seater.
You'll be weighed and told where to sit (and if you are like me, feel VERY unwell at 12000 feet).

I've said it before and will say it again. Some people should not be allowed out!

I can't imagine the clientele (sorry spelling!) on a charter from Mallorca to Newcastle was particularly distinguished!

This happens regularly on the PVG route due to weight of cargo and low number of PAX. Typically J and W PAX sit in their pre-assigned seats. In Y the assignments are changed so that all PAX sit in the rear section only. I've never seen anyone have worries over safety etc, just the odd clever dcik thinking he can take advantage and nab an entire row for himself before takeoff.

Indeed; it's a favourite place of mine (to the north, near Pollensa).
