Well, they've had their share of mishaps in recent times. IMO they are one of those cases where when things go badly, they go very badly. They are organized in a very interesting way, that's for sure.

Normally, you are much better off being stuck at the back of the plane with Jet Blue than you are with United. And United has a criminally underdeveloped network out of New York, which is a major hindrance for a euro airline allied with it. So if LH is flying you into the US without the privileges that come to you as a US-based frequent flier, yes, you'd want to fly Jet Blue.

If you can get gold or plat status on a US airline, there is much less incentive to use Jet Blue. You get upgraded more often than not, have access for free to seats with tons of leg room (on United) which JB charges for, and that more than makes up for the 5 or 10 dollars you'll spend on some peanuts and chips, and up to five hours of dodgy IFE. But that's not going to apply to the majority of people deplaning at JFK from a LH flight.

Codeshare to RSW - I could find that very attractive...

Yes but IIRC LH actually have a small stake in B6. That will be why the link up is taking place.

Quite, 15.6% to be precise. As reported here, this is in fact confined to JFK and BOS, where LH flies, but from where your options with UA or US are very limited. It's a situation I know well with Virgin, though I am not sure I find it much of a problem. I suppose it's nice to know you will finally be able to fly LH to Buffalo with a NY stopover.
