Transfers at Miami Airport

After much deliberation we've decided not to pick up a hire car at Miami Airport next week and go straight to the hotel.
Is it easy just to pick up a taxi to take us South Beach or would I be better organising a transfer in advance?

I personally would, and do, pre-arrange a transfer either via a reputable company or by the hotel concierge. Apart form ease of being greeted in the terminal, it avoids getting into a 'dodgy' cab in a less than salubrious city.

We used
these chaps for our MIA to Miami Beach transfer last year. Reliable and quite well priced as I recall.

We picked up a cab from the official rank no problem.

After looking into it further I'm inclined to just go for a taxi.
Seems like they have a flat fare policy which for two people will be cheaper than a transfer car or even a shuttle (which I don't fancy anyway).
I think we'll just make sure that we get the quote before getting in the cab.

And more importantly not one of the many dodgy ones that tend to hang around Miami airport [;)]
The cheapest option is not always the safest IME

I've never had a problem with the official rank either. The line can be busy sometimes though and the humidity unbearable during the wait (cue frizzy hair [:0]). It is a flat fare but 'remind' the driver that you are aware of this (helps if you can say this in Spanish too).
