Link to BBC News story.

You can just see the cop's faces, as they interviewed him. 'Of course they were planted. That's what they all say!!' [:w][:w]

I think we are all in favour of random checks using 'planted' items such as this but why pick on a totally innocent and random pax instead of using a member of the security services or someone close to them.

Interesting that even though they found illicit items they STILL did not find the explosives!

Now what is going to happen to this poor guy the next time he enters the USA?
Arrested for carrying explosives on an aircraft!!!

Just read the RTE source of this report.
It seems the other items were with other pax.

The question remains: Why was this guy arrested? The police were going to his home after being told of the security exercise!

Frankly I find this un-nerving[:$]. Where they 'testing' their own security measures? Or was this a wider international exercise?

This is not the first time this has happened.
France 'lost' 150gm explosive at CDG
Narita was using cannabis to train drug sniffing dogs - a passenger returned the sample some days later.

I would guess that this would be a dog training exercise - they have to use ordinary passengers baggage otherwise the dog is just trained to recognise the scent of the 'test' baggage or their own staff.
