Thinking of going to goa for christmas ,any tips or advice welcome

I got 'married' at the Taj Aguada Hotel some 11 years ago and went back a couple of years later (9 years next week). Stayed in a detached cottage in the grounds and loved it. Only down side was the flights - we flew First Class to Mumbai then an internal flight rather than going charter direct, so factor in a night each way in Mumbai (prob the reason I have not been back as a bit of a nause).

Christmas will be very busy, being a Catholic state, so book early and expect it to be busy (esp over new year where huge paties on the beach take place (or did - they may have been banned).

Goa is probably a lot more touisty than it was 10 years ago but the people, beaches, sea and climate will be unchanged and are lovely.

I have worked a fair bit in India and often escape to Goa for the weekend.[:I] Although not over Christmas, but would agree with Hackneyguy....book early.

I would suggest that you try and base yourself in South Goa rather than the package tour hell of North Goa, most of the best hotels are in the South anyway.

I have flown VS into Mumbai and then a Jet Airlines down to Goa(unfortunately no longer an option since VS stopped its direct flights into Mumbai), although I think you could still fly VS into Delhi and then the Jet Airways hop down to Goa.

As for where to stay, it really depends what you like, I have normally stayed at a small boutique hotel called Coconut Creek in Bogmalo (small, family run, friendly a 3 minute walk from the beach and reasonably priced)also a certain Brad and Angelina have also stayed there.

I spent 5 days at the Leela palace which is one of the best hotels I have spent. South Goa is more luxury and romantic and north Goa is more happening and younger scene! If you have any specific please ask
