From March, runway 13R-31L will shut for 4 months for repairs. Airlines have been asked to reduce flights for the four month period.

Hopefully it won't cause too many extra delays, it's bad enough now!

It's going to be hellish. Avoid at all costs. I must say I am really surprised that VS haven't moved one flight at least to EWR.

this is dated feb 2009 so the airlines have had plenty of notice

In this

http://www.wpix.com/news/wpix-jfk-runwa ... 1391.story

there is a comment - '...FAA spokeswoman Arlene Salac said. It is unlikely that airlines will shift flights to other area airports, she said.'

Looks to be the best way of doing the works - short term hell for long term gain.

I'm wondering whether this has anything to do with vs flight times changing lhr/jfk at end of March.

Why does it take four months to repair the runway?

Good point.

I seem to remember an episode of BBC's 'Airport' where it took several weeks but all the work was done overnight in sections.

What are the flight times for JFK?

VS also seem to have put rocket boosters on the aeroplanes, flight times do change, but the schedules have all shrink a fair bit, e.g.

VS001 LHR EWR 15:45 18:25 from 28 Mar - a full 35mins faster than
VS001 LHR EWR 16:00 20:15 to 27 Mar
VS003 LHR JFK 09:20 13:20 from 28 Mar - a full 1hr 15mins faster than
VS003 LHR JFK 10:35 13:25 to 27 Mar
VS045 LHR JFK 12:00 16:05 from 28 Mar - a full 1hr 25mins faster than
VS045 LHR JFK 14:00 16:40 to 27 Mar

Changing a 343 for a 747 will result in a faster journey, but do the high level winds change as well, or what else [:?][:?].

Because its nearly 15,000 feet long and 150 ft wide and is being widened to 200ft. And its not just a 'repair'

They are taking 6inches of the current top surface off and replacing it with something like 18+ inches of concrete. It's not the same as simply relaying the top surface.

Am not sure they could cope with a continually moving step adjustment moving down the runway ... It could lead to some rather sudden stops.

Has this anything to do with Daylight savings/BST not being in sync ? [:?]
