Things to do in a chilly Boston...?

Assuming Boston doesn't get snowed in, I'm taking Mrs. VB for a long weekend in Boston next Thursday 18/2 -> Monday 21/2. We're meeting some friends at Harvard on the Saturday, but have plenty of time to explore the rest of Boston.

Given it's going to be a tad chilly, what's recommended to see and do - assuming there isn't 4 feet of snow on the ground [:D]!

Thanks...

Even if it's cold but is a clear day - go to the top of the Prudential Center for the view.

And if you want to do some shopping then the Prudential Center and Copley Place are linked together by a skybridge so there is no need to go outside!

Jump on the train (clean and very punctual) and make a visit to Salem.

Have a fab trip. I love Boston.

Think you'll have enough to do with our suggestions already !

But I did forget to mention that walking the freedom trail (assuming no snow!) will give you a good idea of the city and its history etc. Yes it is a bit of a tourist cliche but it is one of those walks that really does work.

Get a map from the tourist office on Boston Common. Just walking it will take a couple of hours, more if you stop off to look in detail at some of the attractions such as the Old North Church. If you get cold ot tired you dont have to cross the river but the views from Bunker Hill are worth it.

Looks like you are going to do just fine, and just missed the blizzard. Yesterday was a riot, got to Mass from SF around 5pm in the air, circled around for abt 90 mins arsing about, the pilot wondering if he'd have enough fuel to wait it out, or have to divert to Syracuse (those of you who live here will appreciate the irony of diverting there during a storm). Runway on and off. Landed in a real streaky storm (if you've done it before you know how amazing it is to look out the window during one of these). Get on the ground and set about reaching Burlington in the thick of it. Get off I95 at 3A and the ramp is snowed over, car is 'losing traction' and swerving about even at snail-like pace... Make the hotel a good two hours after I should have, bury myself in their wonderful restaurant and set about putting things right with a 209 Martini ...... my dinner date couldn't get out of Chelmsford.

Then again, the storm had pretty much subsided by the time I reached, and this morning I was able to get the car going in abt 15 minutes, when it's taken me 30/40 minutes to defrost the damn thing in the past. I get that land was cheaper here when they were building these hotels, but I still find it ironic that in the La Jolla hotel of identical decor parking is all covered, while in this place it's in the wide open. Those that got here before 3pm yesterday had their cars completely frozen solid ... [:)]

All in all, notwithstanding the fact that I found myself landing and driving through the worst of it, a pretty tame effort by standards both local, and of this winter. Folks on the east coast are getting pretty fed up and waiting for March to roll on. Skiers are ecstatic!
