Not sure if this has been raised here before, but the HMRC Site is now showing you can bring back 390 worth of goods when coming back from a NON EU Country[:0]

I think I still keep telling Mrs Buns that she is limited to 149[:w]

That's good, but I wonder how many people hold to it [:w]

It's only 390 if you arrive on a commercial service from a non-EU country. If you arrive on your private jet or boat, it's a mere 270 !

ISTR that the limit has been raised twice - first it went up to 300 then it was raised again to 390 because of the weak pound. Again, ISTR reading that it was the EU who imposed these increases on the UK Government (as opposed to Mr Brown / Darling's generosity).

As others have said, I don't think that Customs imposed the old limits anyway, as long as it was obvious you were a holidaymaker who had spent a bit more then the limit in the Outlet malls (i.e. not trying to bring any illegal / banned goods in). I've followed people through the Green Channel at MAN who have clearly had an extra bottle of spirits / a few more cigarettes than they should have done (in transparent MCO duty free bags) and they've not been stopped.

I remember returning after Thanksgiving and watching two unwrapped (but boxed) 24' iMacs whizzing around the carousel at LHR. Then watching the lucky new owner carry both through the green channel!
