BBC New Report. Not surprising the way that fuel prices are going up

My friends and I stopped taking black cabs a couple of years ago because they became so expensive. If I know I will need a taxi I now ring a local firm which is very reliable and agree a price first or use the tube. Businesses are all taking a hit at the moment but increasing the charges yet again will only force more people to think twice about using the service.

You're spot on Andy.

I use them regulary - gets me home safe after a night out (I dont use the tube at any time of the day or night) and I am more than happy with their service (improved greatly over the last few years) and offer me VFM.

I know fuel prices have shot up but that affects all businesses. Last week a visitor to our house paid £22 for a black cab fare from Liverpool Street Station to Crouch End (20 mins) whereas our local taxi company charges £15 and the tube is £4.20 (30 mins). She said in future she would use the tube or ask me to pre-book a local taxi.

I love black cabs, always insisted my children used them late at night and would hate to see them disappear, but fear they are pricing themselves out of the market.
