I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else...so...apparently yesterday the CAA removed the 60nm buffer zone around dense concentrations of volcanic ash. Article here. Given the way the ash has behaved, will this make a big difference?

The same article goes on to say that airlines are pressing for a reduction in the length of the closure periods for airports, which apparently is currently a minimum of 6 hours.

Love this bit;
..even if there was no scientific basis for the creation of the buffer zone, similarly there is no scientific basis for removing it..

Definitely an "eh?" moment but presumably trying to imply that the driver for removing it was commercial rather than scientific.
