Yes indeed, there's an iPhone 4 out there somewhere with my name on it too. Already booked the 24th off work here!!

I just hope there's not the chaos there was when O2 offered a pre-order service for the 3G though!!!!

O2 have also said via Twitter and Facebook that they will offer a time-limited upgrade offer even if your still in your exisitng contract just to add to the volume of users upgrading!!!

Surprised Apple didn't increase the capacity though. Propably going for the 32gb black version here what with the new HD video recording. Those files will probably be quite big.

I am very tempted by this, I've been a Blackberry girl but I'm keen on trying the new Iphone, the thing that puts me off is the battery life.

AT&T sucks, no G4 network, so pretty much a non starter over here IMHO, though for you people who live in a country that is not still living in the last decade cellular era I say go for it.

It's an EVO 4G for me, it will be interesting to see how they stack up.

I use a blackberry for work and have just changed my very old personal mobile for an IPhone, and you are right the battery life is annoying. However, there are good and bad points for both phones.

I heard on this post that there may be an offer to upgrade old Iphones - how would this work, would I need to the phone shop I bought it from or will any Apple store do it for me?

No exact details have been announced yet by O2, there are a few rumours going around, some which say you must be in the last 4 months of your contract, but I guess it's just a wait and see for now.

You can register on the O2 site so they will email you when they confirm it.

Thanks Neil, - I have only just taken out the contract so maybe I will be disappointed

I can only see O2 doing upgrade deals.

Given that the other networks only officially started shipping the iPhone end of last year, there isn't much of a case for allowing upgrades after just 6 months, unless backed by a large wad of cash.

As Neil mentions, we will know more when O2 release more details.

Unless something changes this time round, normally Apple cannot process upgrades.

O2 do allow you to buy the PAYG version of the iPhone from Apple at any time and just use your existing contract SIM in it.

However, this could get a bit more complicated now with the iPhone 4 using a smaller micro-SIM so you obviously wont be able to just use your existing O2 SIM card any more.

Apparently (although not confirmed yet) for anyone who took the O2 retentions 30 day SIM-only deal when you reached the end of your 3G contract (which is what I did); you will be treated as a new customer (handset purchase wise, not account wise) and so wont need to go though the upgrade process.

O2 are also the only provider that have visual voicemail, but don't seem to promote that! http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1937

Apparently Orange have no immediate plans to offer visual voicemail. Not sure about Voda?

O2 are also the only one who offer official unlocking at any time too (both contract and PAYG, although it will cost you £15 to unlock a O2 PAYG iPhone). Orange do offer unlocking but only once you reach the end of your contract.

No plans for Vodafone at the moment, AFAIK.

Closest thing out there is Hullomail. Annoyingly, it's currently down.

O2 have now published info about upgrading to the iPhone 4.

O2 are giving you a couple of options including paying a one-off charge if you are still in your existing contract and want to upgrade to the iPhone 4. This one-off charge can be calculated here

Hmmm interesting. Would cost me £250 to be allowed to upgrade and my phone is worth £240 if I recycle, now just to wait and see what the cost of a new one is.

Be careful using the O2 recycle website as they are very particular about damage etc which reduces the price they pay you.

They will even knock you 10% off the price if your battery is flat when they receive it. Here's their guide:

Reduction Type of Damage
-5% Light Cosmetic Damage , Wear and Tear
-10% Received without charge in battery, Missing battery
-25% Cracked Plastic Screen
-75% Not functional (not powering on when charged), Heavy cosmetic damage. Bad cracks, Any LCD damage, Glass smashed screen.
-100% Water damaged, blocked, stolen or fake items.

Interesting line in the O2 upgrade T&C's

Understand that you will be waiving the "change of mind" period set out in your new Airtime contract or any Distance Sales Act rights granted by law as we will be continuing to prove a service which you are already familiar with.

I'm no lawyer, but I don't believe you can wave your legal rights like that.

Rumors are O2 are not going to allow pre-ordering. Not sure about the other networks.

Three UK have today also confirmed they will be selling the iPhone 4 as well. That basically just leaves Virgin now.

No more unlimited data allowance on any O2 tariff from October:

Was looking at the tariffs and trying to makes some educated guesses as to which plan is best to go with. Given the lack of Visual Voicemail on Orange and Vodafone, probably going to stick with O2, even though I'm suspicious of the removal of unlimited data.

So, I'l looking at the two Simplicity plans (30 day and 12 month), plus the two options that subsidise the handset (18 month and 24 month). I'm going to make a broad assumption that the US pricing announced probably means the 3GS is going to slot into the pricing where the iPhone 3G was, and the iPhone 4 is going to be marked up at around the same price as the 3GS. If that assumption is right, I expect the Pay-As-You-Go price for the 32GB to be about £499 (maybe a little less), and on the 600 minute Pay Month plan, probably about £180 for the handset.

So, my thinking is this - over the span of a year;

On a 30 day Simplicity plan, I'd pay 12 x £25 + £500, so about £800.
For 12 month Simplicity, that would be 12 x £20 + £500, or about £740.

On an 18 month contract, it'd be 12 x £40 + £180, or around £660.
And for 24 months, 12 x £35 + £180, or about £600.

However, given Apple have developed quite the pattern of releasing every 12 months, and assuming I'd want the latest model next year, I've got to factor the early buy out into those numbers above, and assuming it's £20 per month like the current promo, then I'd be looking at closer to £780 for the 18 month contract and £840 for the 24 month contract.

So I'm thinking the most sensible option is to buy the handset and go for the 12 month Simplicity option. Any other thoughts on this? Obviously this all might change if the prices announced are wildly different.

.... and of course, the Three tariffs might change the situation again. They haven't announced iPhone prices yet, but their tariffs on other smartphones are pretty competitive, and most include unlimited internet.

My only thought is that if you look at the iPhone handset upgrade cycle so far it's big upgrade followed by minor upgrade followed by big so in theory the next upgrade could be just a minor one

2G > 3G (big upgrade)
3G > 3GS (minor upgrade)
3GS > 4 (big upgrade)

I really don't think the O2 tariffs will change even when Three announce theirs as O2 and all the other networks know the iPhone sells itself and people will buy it no matter what.

These are prices for a contract? Presumably payg handsets will be dearer?
