Voted in favour.
6,185 balloted
3,054 voted, of which 71.4% in favour
By my reckoning, only 2,212 voted in favour. Hardly a consensus.

Unite don't seem able to do any better than the UK in general elections.
Almost the same percentage, of those eligible to vote, in favour, as voted for both Conservatives (23%) and Liberals (15%) in the last election.
Hardly a consensus. ):

And guess who's travelling on August 28th, one of the dates touted for the start of the strike? xx(

28th? That's the day I land at LHR.... So - will doing hand luggage only help?

Not really as the airport fire service is employed by BAA and without them nothing can take-off or land.

Being on a plane that will be allowed to land will help!
I suppose we will have to wait till Monday to find out the strike dates

Ah, was hoping that it might just be the baggage handlers - hadn't read the story...
Oh well, there are worse places the be stuck than New York!

You might get diverted to a non-BAA airport like LGW or MAN

Unlikely I'm afraid.
With 7 days notice ATC will not allow departures to closed airports.
If the strike goes ahead - and that's a big
IF - flights will be canx.
Hopefully BAA/Unite will settle - Unite is not wanting another rolling aviation disaster. Lots of other jobs at risk in the industry.

Will wait till Monday to book. I think.

Same here - though my next travel chunk is booked. Out on 16th back on 27th (land on 28th) back out on 3rd, return again on 9th.
Ho hum...

You'll be fine. The strike can't start before August 23rd
My flights are already booked as are those of several friends scattered around the US who are coming to join me. They may have to party without me

Good news
The threat of strikes has been called off after the basis of an agreement has been reached.
