Am heading back to NYC in a couple of weeks, (once back from Tokyo) and have realised that I have no idea where my ESTA number is (you don't get an email conformation and I really can't remember where I put it once printed) and I need to update it. (Staying in a different place)

Does anyone know if I should just apply online for another one or will that flag up any issues?

You will have no issues at all applying for a new one, I have done this a couple of times also.

It might be worth keeping a print out this time as there are rumours that the charge for ESTA which has been agreed might be implemented later this year.

Yes I will - though I remember printing out the last one, just not where I put it..... grrr!!

A tip I offer is when the confirmation number appeares on the screen is to cut and paste it into a word document so its there for when you need to update it.

I would do another one while they are free. You will then get the 2 years again. I believe they will cost soon, though not much, as yet anyway! ii)

I have just re done ours which would have expired next Spring.

Update:

Have completed my new ESTA with no problem.

However, it might be useful for people to know that as my passport expiry date is August 2011, the ESTA is only up to that date too. So when I renew my passport (can't do it until December) I'll need to renew the ESTA too.

(oh, and I've made many notes of the number this time....!)

Yes an ESTA has always been for two years or until the date your passport expired - whichever is the shortest period.

My current ESTA is only for 22 months because of that.

BTW you can renew your passport at anytime - you dont need to wait until the expiry date and IPS will 'credit' your new psssport with upto 11 months from your old one.

It's the time thing.

I'm not in this country for more than any two consecutive weeks between now and December so I can wait until then, rather than paying the £129 for the premium one day service or £112 for the one week fast track.

And if I send my passport off it means I can't travel anywhere for those weeks, which by then, I will be glad of!

FYI, I did the premium one day service in April, and was very pleased - nothing quite like having a new passport in your hands within 4 hours

Good point!

At first I was thinking that £129.50 is a lot for that, but it costs £77.50 to renew anyway, so another £52 to get it the same day, may not be to bad as the headline figure suggests.
