Rolls-Royce has said the engine failure "was confined to a specific component" which led to an oil fire and loss of turbine pressure.

They had already changed the design of a bearing box so many engines have already been "fixed". Older engines will be replaced with one already updated so they then can fitted with the new component and be put back into circulation.

It will allow close examination of all the older design items.

Ouch - sounds expensive to RR - but wouldn't be the first (nor the last) time an engine manufacturer has had to do such product upgrades/replacements.

They've acted swiftly though, so I'd imagine that no long term damage has been done to the RR brand within the industry.
