We've been down in Tucson at the PIMA air and space museum, and i picked up a dummy 30mm A10 cannon shell as a souvenir.

Just wondering, would you recommend taking it through as hand luggage or risking having checked baggage opened up by TSA etc

Information on the TSA website and virgin's only applies to live ammunition as far as i can see.

Any comments would be appreciated.

It's no big deal having your checked baggage opened by TSA - strap it and don't lock it with anything other than a TSA lock. Leave the item near the surface, wrapped with its receipt.

I would guess any replica is likely to be removed from hand luggage.

TSA are a law unto themselves. No use arguing or trying to persuade with hand luggage. Either way though you have a risk it will be removed.

Just thought i'd update, TSA werent in the slightest bit fussed about the shell, though i did make sure to tell them about the item in question.

Thanks for the advice.
