Central Edinburgh hotel recommendations

Am spending a Sat night in Edinburgh with my young daughter doing some family visits.

Having looked at the half dozen hotels in the centre (not near airport hotels), I'm just wondering about niose on a Sat night etc.

Anyone got any specific recommendations?

The Balmoral would be my place to stay - every visit has been a joy and yes it is very quiet in the evening too (suite not necessarily the great bar !)

Sheraton should be quiet and is easy to drive to / from.

Caledonian has great views of the Castle from the rooms on the Lothian Rd side, but that road can be quite noisy at night with revellers / ambulances / polis cars. After a couple of years staying there I started to ask for rooms without a view. Parking is round the side of the hotel.

Missoni is fun and a great location up on the Mile, but can be a bit noisy with passing foot traffic as a result and not easy to park.

Grosvenor is five minutes walk from the centre at Haymarket and off the main drag so is quiet.

Might be to late but I often stay at Ten Hill Place. Very quiet for a central hotel.

The MacDonald Holyrood Hotel is quite nice. It's next to the Parliament and looks out onto Arthur's Seat. It is right at the bottom of the Royal Mile though, so is a bit of a walk to the Castle etc.. It was very quiet when we stayed over a long weekend.
