Well assuming that it is on the up and up, if they can get to a mass production stage, then that really could be a game changer.

Actually, research into this field has been going for some time now, with various degrees of success. Whether or not this particular article is legit, I cannot comment, but the theory itself is not make believe.

All living organisms from simple eukaryotic cells, up to large multi-cellular organisms, such as our selves, manufacture simply massive massive macromolecules constantly. With the correct genetic engineering something simple like fuel would be very possible.
