V-Flyer

Looks like I'll be in the USA for 110 days trvelling East Coast and visiting family. I'm having trouble getting insurance for more than 90 days or that isn't ridiculous 366 for the AA which I just can't afford. Does anyone have any suggestions otherwise might have to cancel the trip

Have they said why its a problem?

Is it because (they think) your home will be left empty fot that period of time or just the length of your trip?

An assurance for the latter is easy to provide - arrange for relative / neighbour to do daily visits etc.

No it was just an internet quote. I love with my mam so the home thing isn't really a problem. I just assumed it was because the trip was so long. Tried all of the major Travel Insurance providers, Post Office doesn't do trips over 90 days and the rest all giving quotes for 300ish. Found one for 100 or so but not sure of how much I will be actually covered for. Seriously though I am not paying more for insurance then I paid for the flights. I blame the USA and their expensive health care

I think unless any of you wonderful people can suggest anything difference my best bet will be to have a look at some specialist gap year travel providers. I only fear that they might be more than I need for merely visiting family and doing some East Coast travel, hardly strenuous backpacking activities

I can see it from the insurance companies perspective - the longer you are out there the higher the risk of something going wrong and them paying out.

Is there not a way your US family can add you to their policies?

BTW how you getting round the 90 day limit for a tourist visa? (which also may account for the 90 insurance policy limit too)

I'm off to get a tourist visa next week at the embassy rather than just going on the visa waiver scheme which allows for up to a 6 month stay. I would be wary to ask my family to be put on their insurance even if it were cheaper mainly because if I needed to claim for anything it would probably mess with their costs for a while which would be unfair. I'm probably being a bit over cautious

Thanks for everyones help I think I'll go with Club Direct. They seem to offer pretty good coverage and I like the waiver excess for not too much extra.

Whenever I have contacted them they have always been very efficient. Never made a claim though!
