Dollar Express

Hello again,

Just wanted to post a quick message to say thank you to everyone who assisted regarding my Dollar car hire queries and to all those who pointed us in the direction of Dollar Express.

We arrived at Orlando airport on April 15th and armed with just the DE membership card printed from on-line, we followed the instructions given here to go sraight over to the DE desk situated in the car park. No queque, completed minimum paperwork (coz all was recorded when registering with DE) and we got keys and choice of vehicle all within 10 minutes. Went to the 'special lane' and there was a brand new Dodge Grand Caravan with just 340 miles on the clock. VIP sticker hanging on the mirror. Fantastic car with so many gadgets. However what then followed makes me have reservations about cars with so many 'additional electrical bits'. Just four days into our holiday, the darn thing froze! The key just wouldn't work anything and as a result the car 'died'. Dollar sent a replacement which is another long story. We only kept this heap of junk for a day before having to drive to Tampa to exchange it. At this point we was given a brand new vehicle again, after my son-in-law mentioned the words DE member :D.

We had booked the car hire via Net.Flights as usual, got a really good deal and everything went really smoothly. We was checking in at the Floridays Resort within an hour of clearing immigration (which for info was a total breeze).

Thanks again for all your info and advice.

Thank you for letting us know how you went on.

Can I just check - did you manage to register your confirmation number with Dollar Express before you arrived or did they just accept your membership and Netflights booking on the day?

The reason I am asking is that the Dollar system won't accept the confirmation number I have from AutoEurope. :(

I have tried missing off the first letter etc but no joy. What form does a Dollar confirmation number usually take? Mine starts with R and then six numbers.

Hi IzzyRose.

No we did not register any confirmation number with the DE in advance.

I had read previously that if you booked with USRentacar then they say you can tell them your DE membership number and they will forward this to Dollar.

We had booked with Net flights prior to registering with DE and I recall there was nowhere to register any membership anyway. When we got to Orlando, we just handed the carhire voucher from NetFlights, along with the DE card, straight over to the DE desk. The agent then pulled up all the info using the DE membership card number, so somehow the two got 'matched' but it was nothing we did.
We sighed with relief though, coz I would have hated to be sent back into the terminal and join that longgggg queque.
Hope that helps. H

Each post I read about this leaves me more flummoxed about what happened to us at the DE kiosk at Orlando. But - I don't think I'll get to know why we were told what we were told, since nobody here has had any problems. Ah well, one of life's unexplained mysteries.... ?|
