Well, not the airport..
A long weekend, as i've never been and need to do something other than spending a week in spain with the mother-in-law for a significant birthday :w ?| well you're only 30 once ):
Any good recommendations... Budget is medium - high but not extreme. location is key for food and drinks etc.. :w

The Pulitzer is my favourite hotel in AMS. Great location and service, and the rooms are not the usual bland chain offering due to it being converted canal houses.

only been to AMS once and we stayed at The Crowne Plaza, wasn't too expensive hotel was quite nice and centrally located a few mins walk from the central station, which made getting from the airport very easy.
Was walkable to all the delights AMS has to offer and close to trams if you needed to head to the museums.

I'm staying there in a couple of weeks with work. Will let you know.
Have also stayed at
at the Lloyd Hotel, which was frankly, just weird. But if you like a funky arty place you might like it.

The Marriot has recently been refurbed and is in a good spot for what you're looking for.
You can get the 197 bus to/from the Airport and it stops just over the road (outside the American hotel) and takes 15-25 mins dependign on traffic, much easier than the train/tram option.
